Information: Plot Requests

plot requests

This page is for suggesting plot ideas (either player-driven events or general suggestions) for perusal by the mods. We encourage players to come up with and run their own events, and would be happy to help refine an idea to best suit the game setting and the other players. Don't want to run your own event? This is also the place to suggest general ideas, such as "I think we should have some kind of weather event where it storms for days and knocks out power and people have to work together" etc.

For small events that only affect a handful of players, please consider requesting a mission. You want to hunt for ghosts in the empty hospitals? You want to space walk outside the station and fight zombies with a line gun? Tell us there!

As for large scale player-driven events...

large-scale action requests

Large-scale actions are player-driven game plots which will affect more than those directly involved in the planning. This can be anything from a bomb going off to a game show. In general, though, we only need to see a request form if an action will harm or threaten the population, including NPCs.

Mod approval is needed for these actions so that the mod team can work with players to ensure balance and plausibility with game canon and metaplot. As with everything in Singularity, players can pretty much do what they want, we'd just ask for moderation.

Some examples of large scale actions:
  • "I have a neurotoxin which causes temporary amnesia and disorientation I want to release into Kurzweil's vents."
  • "I have already found the Underworld and want to kidnap one of the insurgents to interrogate her."
  • "I want to kidnap Agent Texas and hold her hostage for ransom on the network."
  • "I want to hack into Sacrosanct's confidential records to see if I can find something."
To request a large-scale action, comment with the following:

The general rule with large-scale actions, and any other big deal requests, is to provide enough lead time in case the mods need to discuss any of the details with you. We are not in a mindset to outright reject anything; rather, if something doesn't quite work for us, we'd prefer to talk it out, to see if there's not another solution. The mods may also ask you to postpone your plot to avoid scheduling conflicts with other player plots, and event burn-out for the game at large.

If your plot is going to require special items, such as finding a fully functional EMP in the Junkyard, please note that in the description here instead of going to the Requests page. We will approve items on this page if they are related to a plot.

supernova1006: (i dunno it just blew up)

[personal profile] supernova1006 2012-01-27 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Your Name: Pen
Character Name: Jin Tian
Character Journal: [personal profile] supernova1006
Nature of the Action: Player/game event. Jin is going to poke the rift; the rift will go temporarily haywire.
Explain in more detail how this will work: Detailed information is here. Basically, over the course of a few months, Jin and some others will build a sort of "rift manipulator" in the hopes of stabilizing the rift. When he turns it on, it'll backfire. Jin himself will be trapped inside the rift itself for the duration of the event. In the meantime, the other station residents will have to deal with the consequences.

The consequences in this case are that physics is basically gonna go "lol nope" for several days. There will be spatial and temporal distortions, color inversions, and other fun things. Toward the end, characters, items and maybe even pieces of the station will vanish into a pocket dimension. Once the event is over, everything will be back to normal and everyone will be returned safely.

This is meant to be a game-wide event for everyone to get in on if they want to, and while whacky and also dangerous things might be happening, the intent is certainly not to get anyone killed. Mostly people will just have to deal with Escher-like staircases for awhile.
When do you expect this action to be carried out? The event will last about ten days (though that's negotiable), and I'd like for it to happen maybe at the end of March or the beginning of April. This will give enough time for Jin to build the machine, and also give time for other people to have events and plots happen between now and then.
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? Ideally, no one should die from this event, but it'll certainly mess up life for everyone for awhile. And Hypatia will probably be pissed.
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? ICA=ICC. Jin will be gone for the duration of the event, but when he gets back Hypatia (and others) will probably have Legitimate Questions.
Does this involve characters other than your own? Yes, in particular characters who will be helping Jin build the rift manipulator. The entire populace of the station could theoretically be involved in the event itself.
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? The helpers are all scientists and such who have previously expressed interest in helping Jin. The event itself is meant to be game-wide, however, but considering several different things are going to happen, people would freely be able to take part in only one bit of the event. Unfortunately I don't know if people will be able to opt-out completely, but it's entirely possible that characters could just be in a part of the station that's unaffected.

*Note:* All of this is subject to change based on mod discretion. I would love to work with the mods on making this event more amenable to everyone in general, since I certainly don't want to step on any toes. I'm totally flexible on the nature of the event as well as the time frame, and any ideas the mods or other players have to spruce up or trim down this event would be really awesome :)

Was advised to resubmit here again, seeing as the old comment didn't get imported. THIRD TIME LUCKY, MAYBE? 8'|

Your Name(s!): Louise and Michi
Character Names: Vriska Serket, Terezi Pyrope (CRAU)
Character Journals: [personal profile] fairygodtroll, [personal profile] pythianjudgment
Nature of the Action: Player plot
Explain in more detail how this will work: EVIL TWINS, HELL YEAH.
When the event begins, characters who use the teleporters will have a 50% chance of emerging from the other end with a shiny new clone alongside them. The teleporters can also glitch and send the clone to a completely different portal to give the clone the element of surprise. This clone is their ~EVIL TWIN~.

(Unless the character is already evil. Then the clone can be their eviller twin. Or their good twin. MUN DISCRETION, I GUESS).

Muns will play their own characters' twins, so what ensues is generally up to the individual. Basically, it's a chance to play a villain for a week! Custom-tailored trauma and mindfuckery for everyone! Yaaaaaaaay!
When do you expect this action to be carried out? ...whenever plots open up again? Er. Sometime in January would be lovely! WHENEVER IS CONVENIENT because suggesting a timeframe hasn't been working out well, herp derp. Aaaand it'll last a week of in-game time.
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? The clones will doubtless be engaging in illegal activity, yes. Evil illegal activity.
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? All twins will be killed off after a week, max - while many are likely to be killed off by players, I'd suggest some kind of failsafe to ensure there are none of them left standing post-plot. As the twins are pretty much just corrupted teleporter data, maybe have them spawn with a fatal flaw in their DNA that kills them off after a week, just in case?
Does this involve characters other than your own? Anybody who would like to opt in.
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? Players who don't want their characters to spawn twins won't have to.

When this was submitted on the original plot suggestion thread, there was some concern about the number of doubles potentially being present on the station. As stated then, Michi and I are more than willing to put forth the extra work that might be needed to keep things organised if it means we get to retain the clone aspect of the plot (rather than it being a personality swap). We're also open to restrictions on the number of characters that can be cloned - one per mun, for example?

Sorry if this is disjointed or anything - Michi's at a con, so I can't get her views on this yet. Is it okay if I clarify/ask about a few things?

I don't really see why the plot taking the form of a personality change would make characters any more or less accountable for their morality-swapped actions. To use an example - say Evil!Vriska stabs someone. Whether it's a clone or a personality swap, the victim would be under the impression that Vriska did it. When everybody realises that the teleporters are fucking up yet again, that impression would be lessened or removed. So I'm not really seeing the difference, especially since IC consequences for twins would be far more severe (I assume that if we take the clone route, the clones would be aware of their non-respawning status and therefore act with much more caution than they would otherwise).

As for the potential chaos: the thing that originally prompted the idea for this plot was a_facility doing a similar one last year (that being the game that Michi's CRAU Terezi comes from, herp). They're a bigger game than Sing is and they handled it just fine! When Michi gets back, I could maybe ask her for some links if that'd help to assuage any "oh christ this is going to be the hugest clusterfuck"-fears?

Sorry to be so much trouble. If this still absolutely can't happen, I'll talk to Michi about it when she gets back. 8C

Dark Samus and Phazon Plot

[personal profile] chozobloodrites 2012-01-30 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
(I know I submitted this a couple months ago, but then the whole LJ debacle happened, so I figured I'd just resubmit it)

Name: Sarah
Character Journal: [personal profile] chozobloodrites
Nature of the Action: Player Plot
Explain in more detail how this will work: In Samus' world, there is a very virulent and sentient mutagenic substance known as Phazon. When it doesn't outright kill a creature, it will change their DNA to suit its purposes of planet-wide domination, often giving beneficial boosts of power as well as destroying the brain. In one of Samus' battles against Phazon, she unknowingly helped spawn a creature known as Dark Samus, a combination of a discarded suit of Samus' and Phazon. Its purpose was to spread the poisonous substance across the universe, and in doing so destroy Samus.

So for the plot itself, it would be the rift pulling in Dark Samus. Seeing so many who could be corrupted with Phazon, it would be her goal to take over the station, and possibly utilize the rift to send it out to every possible dimension. I would imagine it would last about a week, the first couple days with people noticing and interacting with the Phazon, perhaps even sighting Dark Samus. Then the corruption would happen, causing some people to die or become obsessed with their new dark master, Phazon itself, and spreading it everywhere. This comes with its own lovely list of side-effects that I would go more detail into.

The last couple of days, Samus would rally a crew, beat up Dark Samus, and in destroying the source of all the Phazon, it would as well disappear from the ship.

When do you expect this action to be carried out? Within the next couple of months? I know that a lot of people have plots lined up and I'm fine with being pushed back for that.
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? There could be deaths, there could be trauma, depends on what players choose.
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? Samus herself will be rid of the Phazon poisoning from her own canon update, and have a clear conscious from destroying an old memory. Pretty much good consequences.
Does this involve characters other than your own? It can if they so choose.
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? Permission will be asked for if the plot is accepted. This is certainly not something players have to do, and there will be safe zones, or Dark Samus can just ignore them.

Your Name: Teal
Character Name: Alex Wilson
Character Journal: [personal profile] parasomnist

Nature of the Action: Turning half a Zone into Silent Hill over the course of a week
Explain in more detail how this will work: Here, previously discussed with a mod
When do you expect this action to be carried out? UHHH Probably April or May, after PAX East finishes and I finish my papers.
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? HA HA BOY IS IT EVER ILLEGAL
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? Regardless of how the characters succeed at stopping her (killing her or otherwise), Alex will be nearly catatonic for some time afterwards, or until I resolve her second canon update (which I'll write up later)
Does this involve characters other than your own? YES
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? There will be a signup post once this is approved and when we get closer to go-time. Characters not interested in this can simply avoid the affected area.
nyctophobias: (he's so happy to see you!)

IDK if this is kosher, but this is a random idea I had off the top of my head.

Your Name: Pen
Character Name: None
Character Journal: N/A
Nature of the Action: A bunch of white walkers from A Song of Ice and Fire come through the rift
Explain in more detail how this will work: White Walkers are like evil zombie-creating winter fae or something who basically like killing everything that's alive and warm-bodied. So I guess a bunch of them come out of the rift, turn anyone they kill into wights (zombies) and wreak havoc until some heroes kill them or something.
When do you expect this action to be carried out? I have no idea, though a summer event would be very ironic
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? Well people will probably die.
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? This one won't really be anyone's fault, just the rift spitting out dangerous stuff.
Does this involve characters other than your own? It involves whoever wants to be involved.
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? It would be totally up to the player's discretion. If people didn't want to be involved, there are plenty of warm Garden Zones that the Walkers would probably avoid.

Your Name: Aaron
Character Name: Jade Harley
Character Journal: [personal profile] astrometry
Nature of the Action: System haxx0rs, with a side effect of body modification!
Explain in more detail how this will work: Jade and Jadesprite have been scheming since...oh, about early December to get Jadesprite a body. However, Jade knows that hacking Credits won't work since Sollux got in serious trouble last time. So her solution is two-fold: hack into the teleporter regeneration data AND replace the lines of Jadesprite's data that make her into a sprite with lines copied from Jade's own archives (from somewhere pre-arm removal, so late September).

Something like this has been in Jade's mind since she was SHOJade during the species swap event; while she was an omniscient computer goddess, she managed to locate the files for regeneration but she didn't touch them at the time because she had no use for them. Now, she's just using the memory of its location for her own purposes.

BUT AS A FUN DISTRACTION MEASURE FOR SEMLEY while Jade is busy doing the poking and prodding in what is probably something that's not to be tampered with, Jadesprite is going to be breaking shit. Like some sort of horrible evil person (because we all know Jadesprite is SO EVIL), Jade has instructed her to blow shit up to grab Semley's attention. You know, holding hostages and threatening to blow up important buildings, that sort of thing.

Obviously, there will be a lot more crying than blowing shit up, but there you go.

Jade manages to alter the code and then...well, uh. Jadesprite needs to die to come back as a human, so she. WIll have to do that. (Jade didn't think this through that far, okay.) ANYWAY point is, Jadesprite will be returning as a human, hopefully with no memories of being destructive because that would be sad.

And then Jade gets some sort of punishment for breaking into Extremely Important Documents, because Semley isn't stupid and neither is Hypatia. Everyone's happy.
When do you expect this action to be carried out? Late March, if you're able!
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? Sure does.
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? Akin to a more severe penalty for Lock-Out: I'm not sure what you would want from Jade, but I'm up for pretty much anything except ridding her of God Tier powers permanently.

Also Aith says that Jadesprite getting a penalty for blowing buildings up and being Jadezilla is fine.
Does this involve characters other than your own? Yes; Jadesprite ([personal profile] deusexmachinarf). Possibly also Semley, but it would function more as an extension of the Lock-Out System, so I would post it there if it got approved (for proper notification). ALSO I SUPPOSE SOME SORT OF KIDNAPPED PERSONAGE, but we would take volunteers if the plot got approved and absolutely no harm would be done to them other than the shame of being kidnapped by a sobbing dog girl.
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? Yep! Aith! is down with it.

Your Name: Ammay
Character Name: Thor Odinson
Character Journal: [personal profile] thundering
Nature of the Action: Age switch - general player plot!

Explain in more detail how this will work: The teleporters and the rift seem to out of whack, and everyone who steps into the teleporters steps out of them as a chid or, if they're already a child, and adult. The thing is that instead of just being themselves but younger/older, they're actually from that point in their lives. Thor, for example, would be a few centuries old and the brattiest prince ever instead of being the easygoing god of thunder everyone knows him as.

When do you expect this action to be carried out? Mid-April? For about a half a week, maybe a week?
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? Nope, just shenanigans!
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? N/A
Does this involve characters other than your own? Yes!
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? Well considering it'd be a game wide, opt-in event, players would be made aware of the plot going down about a week, week and a half before it starts in order to plot and get icons and make others aware of if their character is going to get switched in and out or not. It's just a fun, random event! If they want to avoid it, they can simply not use the teleporter or find one that's unaffected.

For the actual plot, probably only a day or two. One day for the actual Jadesprite "kidnapping" people and Jade working to get her a new body, and then the next for Semley doing his whole Semley thing. But Jade will be working on her initial plans as soon as we get the OK.
