Information: Plot Requests
plot requests |
|
This page is for suggesting plot ideas (either player-driven events or general suggestions) for perusal by the mods. We encourage players to come up with and run their own events, and would be happy to help refine an idea to best suit the game setting and the other players. Don't want to run your own event? This is also the place to suggest general ideas, such as "I think we should have some kind of weather event where it storms for days and knocks out power and people have to work together" etc. For small events that only affect a handful of players, please consider requesting a mission. You want to hunt for ghosts in the empty hospitals? You want to space walk outside the station and fight zombies with a line gun? Tell us there! As for large scale player-driven events... |
large-scale action requests |
|
Large-scale actions are player-driven game plots which will affect more than those directly involved in the planning. This can be anything from a bomb going off to a game show. In general, though, we only need to see a request form if an action will harm or threaten the population, including NPCs. Mod approval is needed for these actions so that the mod team can work with players to ensure balance and plausibility with game canon and metaplot. As with everything in Singularity, players can pretty much do what they want, we'd just ask for moderation. Some examples of large scale actions:

To request a large-scale action, comment with the following: |

The general rule with large-scale actions, and any other big deal requests, is to provide enough lead time in case the mods need to discuss any of the details with you. We are not in a mindset to outright reject anything; rather, if something doesn't quite work for us, we'd prefer to talk it out, to see if there's not another solution. The mods may also ask you to postpone your plot to avoid scheduling conflicts with other player plots, and event burn-out for the game at large. If your plot is going to require special items, such as finding a fully functional EMP in the Junkyard, please note that in the description here instead of going to the Requests page. We will approve items on this page if they are related to a plot. |

Character Name: Jin Tian
Character Journal:
Nature of the Action: Player/game event. Jin is going to poke the rift; the rift will go temporarily haywire.
Explain in more detail how this will work: Detailed information is here. Basically, over the course of a few months, Jin and some others will build a sort of "rift manipulator" in the hopes of stabilizing the rift. When he turns it on, it'll backfire. Jin himself will be trapped inside the rift itself for the duration of the event. In the meantime, the other station residents will have to deal with the consequences.
The consequences in this case are that physics is basically gonna go "lol nope" for several days. There will be spatial and temporal distortions, color inversions, and other fun things. Toward the end, characters, items and maybe even pieces of the station will vanish into a pocket dimension. Once the event is over, everything will be back to normal and everyone will be returned safely.
This is meant to be a game-wide event for everyone to get in on if they want to, and while whacky and also dangerous things might be happening, the intent is certainly not to get anyone killed. Mostly people will just have to deal with Escher-like staircases for awhile.
When do you expect this action to be carried out? The event will last about ten days (though that's negotiable), and I'd like for it to happen maybe at the end of March or the beginning of April. This will give enough time for Jin to build the machine, and also give time for other people to have events and plots happen between now and then.
Is this illegal and/or sure to have negative consequences? Ideally, no one should die from this event, but it'll certainly mess up life for everyone for awhile. And Hypatia will probably be pissed.
If so, do you have a plan for what's going to happen to your character? ICA=ICC. Jin will be gone for the duration of the event, but when he gets back Hypatia (and others) will probably have Legitimate Questions.
Does this involve characters other than your own? Yes, in particular characters who will be helping Jin build the rift manipulator. The entire populace of the station could theoretically be involved in the event itself.
If so, have you gotten the other players' permission? The helpers are all scientists and such who have previously expressed interest in helping Jin. The event itself is meant to be game-wide, however, but considering several different things are going to happen, people would freely be able to take part in only one bit of the event. Unfortunately I don't know if people will be able to opt-out completely, but it's entirely possible that characters could just be in a part of the station that's unaffected.
*Note:* All of this is subject to change based on mod discretion. I would love to work with the mods on making this event more amenable to everyone in general, since I certainly don't want to step on any toes. I'm totally flexible on the nature of the event as well as the time frame, and any ideas the mods or other players have to spruce up or trim down this event would be really awesome :)

Is there anything I should change/tone down/alter etc to make this more palatable or anything?
