Hypatia Event OOC Post #4 - Training and Downtime

Hello everyone!

That Asphodel Log is amazing, you guys, and I'm so jazzed about it. I don't want anyone to take it that this means they can't tag or even hop into that, if they hadn't had the chance and still wanted to (I'm still tagging that log in a myriad of places), this is just to keep everything moving along cheerfully so we don't make everyone wait around too long.

Now that Shepard has threatened and/or grilled half the people on Sacrosanct and everyone has had a chance to sit down and think over what's going to happen, everyone is free to go back to the station. In the interests of not writing out another slightly threatspirational speech and making you all read it, we can all assume that, before anyone was let out of that bunker, Shepard reminded them that Hypatia will brutally murder every single one of them if she finds out about what they're planning--so mums the word.

Presumably, before leaving the planet, Shepard would have assigned three man assault teams. They might not have been the final cut, but she'd have placed everyone in the most logical configuration. Now, as I'm still tagging most of those threads, and I'm slow, I'm not entirely certain what everyone will be doing during the Assault run. This is problematic because I'm not sure who is in whose team quite yet.

Instead of giving you guys these assignments, right this instant, we can fall back on the fact that Shepard talked to most of them about what their function would be, on their team. So individual training can commence even without a really detailed knowledge of who is going with who. For the first round of training, lets say everything is relatively individual. We can run some basic team exercises (for CR building) a little later.

(Additionally, I still have a long list of people who went unassigned compared to the list who wanted to be on the assault. If we're handwaving that, please mention it in your OOC recap or post here to that effect so I can make a list for assignin' purposes.

Also: if you know who you want to sit next to on the assault-mission-bus, that would be good to mention.)

For the immediate future we have training, supply stocking, and intel gathering to occupy our time. Everything beneath here is a suggestion, just to facilitate a ton of new CR. If you have any other ideas, please let me know!

So, let's get to that aforementioned juicy stuff:

Effectively, as of right this moment, everybody who joined up on the planet is a defacto member of the Normandy Crew. This comes with some awesome benefits, some responsibilities, and the only downside is that whole storming headlong into death...thing.

Of the perks, you all now have access to a new flavor of communications encryption. Between EDI and Liara, encoded communications regarding the assault shouldn't result in everyone dying. Now, this isn't to say that this should be chatted about, since the ceiling AI is always watching you, but it gives us some leeway if we really need to have an IC conversation to move things forward but don't want to let the cat out of the bag. It also permits messages to be overheard by other team-members but still be effectively secret.

This new flavor, for OOC subject line purposes, can be called Assault Encryption.

If you're an AI or you have one and they were in on the take down on Asphodel, feel free to have them generating that flavor of encryption for you.

Weapons and gear.
Are you a mage, teenager, or otherwise generally unequipped person. Well, now you have the option to roll in IC and have the Normandy crew outfit you with useful weapons, a breather unit, and shielding for the assault*. Additional cool shit may be provided*.

*This may involve your character and a few others going on a short mission to liberate the necessary supplies from Hypatia's various storage lockers/armories/labs/or other such locked facilities. The potential for a junkyard trip is also present.

Defacto members of the crew who hoarde weapons should be aware that any additional weapons supplies donated to the cause will only make their personal probability of survival go up.

Alcohol!
Did we mention that Normandy Haus, due to general crew morale and alcoholism, has a fully stocked bar inside the base where they'll be training you? Because they do. And not the cheap stuff either EDI doesn't spring for the cheap stuff.

Caution: if you're neither Krogan, nor Spartan, nor generally cybernetic, avoiding the glowing bottles is recommended. If you grab something meant for an alternate protein structure and lapse into immediate anaphylaxis, there are epinephrine needles next to the drink stirrers.

Cooking!
Actually they can't cook, this is more one of the risks than one of the benefits of being a defacto crew member. Seriously. Don't eat here.

Conversely, if your character can cook, be prepared to have Shepard shove them into the kitchen and acquire whatever they need (presumably at gunpoint) to get them doing that.

Dogs!
This is a mixed bag. Urz is an alien-fish-dog of a species generally known to chew off arms. The Shepards love him. Everyone else...less so. He's friendly if you bribe him with jerky, live animals, or inept mercenaries. Other dogs welcome.

Do you have a mundane personal problem?
Because these people are notorious for trying to deal with them before suicide missions. Seriously. If it can be solved by anything other than talking or emotional openness, they'll probably try to deal with it. Deadlock, I'm looking at you, pal.

Training - That's not a knife...

Guns and Basic - Instructors: Lieutenant James Vega, Operations Chief Ashley Williams
If your character isn't good with guns, or if they're a little less military than is strictly advisable for this mission, Shepard probably told them they needed training. Basic military training, how to handle your sidearm or that shiny new assault rifle, and why that shield we gave you is awesome will be a few basic lessons. Group lessons seem more logical than one on one, but however anyone wants to roll.

Synthetic Opponent Hand to Hand - Instructors: Commander Jane Shepard, Commander John Shepard
Some of you have serious hand to hand combat skills but you're untrained with a gun, or you're trained with a really passe variety of gun (read as: modern). Just in case you have to rely on those bitchin' hand to hand skills, Shepard plans on teaching you the finer points of dealing with enemies who outclass you in speed, strength, and general reaction time. It's a little unfair that both of the Commanders were all but engineered for this sort of thing, but they did it the hard way at one point in their lives.

Missions and Jobs - See: Liara T'Soni, EDI, Thane Krios, Major Kaidan Alenko (And probably Carolina once Kraks is back off slowatus.)
Some of you may be better suited for things that don't involve charging headlong into bullets; some of you may just prefer that. Whatever the case, the person coordinating supplies, weapons, and vehicles on this mission is your friendly neighborhood Shadow Broker. She has your dossier on record (Yes, you have a dossier now.), and is tapping every resource to get what we need for this mission.

You may have to break into an armory, sweep the junkyard, hack the network for schematics, you name it. If you want to volunteer to do these things, more's the better. Odds are good, volunteer or not, you'll get some backup in the form of an Andriod, a Biotic, or an Assassin.

Technology and Development - See: Major Kaidan Alenko, Freelancer Carolina, Dr. Kimiko Ross
With so many resident AI, we've got the cyber-warfare part down, but every bit of software needs some hardware and what you have might be better than what we do, or vice versa. If there's something we need integrated, or something you need to be schooled in, this is the place to do it.

On top of that, if you're a pilot, this is your piece of the action. What ships do you need, what can you fly, and how well can you fly it? Some of you may be placed behind something a little less convenient than you're used to, or you may have to work with the AI and whatever engineers we can scrape up Ale-ale-alejandro to make a drop ship. When we get there, you pilots may have something more important to deal with than keeping the car running, so it's time to prep for all that.

*Excessive technological jargon hand-waving permitted and encouraged for all generic conversations. Really, so long as it's IC sounding, who cares?

If anyone would like to volunteer their character to lead a new training section, or join one of the existing sections as an instructor, please post here! The more the merrier!

I'll toss up an open log for Training purposes, later, but everyone should feel encouraged and free to post as they feel necessary. If you are on the mission and want to practice with that sidearm we handed you, feel free to post an open log at the Normandy Haus. If you want to spontaneously start combing the junkyard for parts and pretend Shepard told you to, go nuts.

It's all good, everybody.

I don't know, I heard Vega makes halfway decent eggs.

She was having a facial-animation-glitch competition with Miranda. I think she won.

Training and Stuff

So, Roxas will probably require some training with firearms, because while keyblades are surprisingly deadly (and can unlock stuff and cure people), he should probably know how to use a gun just in case.

He'll also be eager to go on missions and do odd jobs, because that's stuff he knows how to do.
swordisakey: (now here's the sun it's alright)

It's a little later than his canon point, but he does know how to smash computers. Does that count?

Indeed they shall.

Marco is also learning about guns! Shall they be shooting buddies?

Yes. Yes they should.

Jituss will have to pretend that she's not an expert at hand-to-hand, or at taking down synthetics, and pretend she doesn't have advanced military training. So she'll show up to those and act like a novice who just so happens to learn fast.

Stealth ops, hacking, tech, ability to use the blaster pistol / blaster carbine / knife she has on her person, and piloting, she can do.

Also she cooks fairly decently. What up Shep.

You'll have to show her which ingredients you like, this is all alien bullshit to her!!

Zelgadis learning about gear will be potentially amazing and hilarious (don't let him hear you call him unequipped). Anyone want to join him on a supply raid?

Also, I would like to request that Marco be supplied with copious amounts of alcohol and an alien-fish-dog to acquire while he loafs about the Haus being an obnoxious blob.

Here is an open Zel thread for now; I'll work something out for Marco later in life.

random sciency weirdness and also Kim has an airtight secret base with fortified walls and attack-dinosaur in zone 16.

I think it would be fun to thread about this.

Deadlock is looking right back at you. He has no personal problems what are you even..

BUT he could use someone good with computers to try to get into medical records. He needs files on himself, you know, in case.

Question. Any place for Duo and his gundan specifically?

[personal profile] stillshinigami 2012-10-09 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
He can handle sniping, hacking, and a tiny mech? Hell yes.

I'm visualizing the ones from District 9.

Aliens would work better.

Where does Shepherd want him? I posted ICly to her but never got a response.

Oh, Okay! Where was the chart linked to, I'll go check that out.

But that sounds pretty awesome, and I didn't actually talk to many people in character. I was kinda on a writers block for a while and I didn't check anything.

Anyway I'll try to figure that out. Thanks!

[personal profile] stillshinigami 2012-10-09 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'll try to post around more this week, but I like where he's at.

and honestly? I Really do wanna get a Mech in on this.
