MOD ANNOUNCEMENT -- AC POLICY

First, this is a reminder that Activity Check begins in two weeks on April 1st, so now is the time to start rounding up posts, or make them if you're falling short. AC is one network or log post with comments, or 15 comments in another person's post. For this round all activity since moving to DW counts, so we don't anticipate any reasonably active players having trouble with it. Characters accepted in March are exempt.

Currently, we have a lenient activity check, and we loosened it even more for the move, in anticipation of complications which, happily, didn't occur. Our AC schedule worked just fine when we were a smaller, slower game, but that's no longer the case. Space Prom went to 3,000 comments in a week, and we are facing the fact that our little game is all grown up and ready to borrow the keys and wreck the car.

We have no intention of instituting an unreasonable AC, but we do need to make it more stringent to keep inactive players from affecting their casts and other CR, and there is plenty of room to tighten things up without AC becoming unmanageable. We are currently leaning toward keeping AC bimonthly, but increasing the total number of posts/comments required, probably with a mix-'n'-match system that will accommodate various play styles. However, we'd like your input before making any changes, hence this post. What would you like to see out of a new AC policy? What would you not like to see? We know people would like to have a purge list posted at the end of the AC period. Anything else?

Any changes will not affect this AC round.

Seconding the purge list at the end of AC, and if possible could you have both character name and journal name in the list?

As far as AC, I'd really hate to see more than two posts/logs in two months required, though I'd be okay with something like three pieces of activity that can be post/log/comments. Just as long as they don't have to all be posts.

Since I have a quick chance to shove an opinion in here before I get driving again, I am against increasing a number of entries (I.e. 3 entries a month) or having a strict weekly activity. I know Sing doesn't do either of these but I just want to throw this out before I possibly fall behind.

+increasing entry number => I sometimes have problems thinking of posts on my own, but I find it easier to have characters respond to something happening than be directly posting to the network (esp with CT, who's not likely to post to the network pretty much at all, but will respond to thinks that interest her). I think the 15 comments ob someone else's entry is a great avenue for those kinds of characters.

+strict weekly activity => Again, I know Sing doesn't do this, but I've been in a game with a strict you must have this many consecutive comments in a week so if I had a bad week or was running slower for any reason, I had to call. Iatus for anything. I think a monthly AC is a good standard across the board with grace if someone had a particularly shitty/busy month.

If we went to a weekly AC requirement, I would pitch a fit.

LMFAO glad we're on the same page then! It was stressful for me as a player to have a weekly number and I think eve bi-weekly is not a great idea. A month is golden, man.

I'm already in one of those and I don't think I can do two sob.

Yeah, a purge list would be awesome, and seconding Anarin on having it be both character name/journal so we know who's who.

My preference is just that the required activity isn't one specific type, i.e. one post and one log per AC period, since some characters either don't want to post to the network or don't have much to say, but are still active through comments. I think if we stick with bimonthly, at the very least the amount of activity should probably be doubled (i.e. two posts/two logs/two 15-comment threads/any mix of those per AC period), but so long as there are options I'm not too concerned with any particular breakdown.

I'm really worried about making it monthly -- not because I don't think that I could make it, but because Singularity has always been the game that, should I have an off month (which happens, especially since all the recent anon drama) then I don't have to worry about it because I've probably already done enough.

Though as long as it's no more than two things every other month, I think it would still be fine, especially if it doesn't have to be posts.

ALSO THIRDING THE PURGE POST.

SLIDES IN HERE.

My personal preference as a player falls in line with keeping it bimonthly with about 2-3 things of mix-and-match, so definitely some mod agreement here on that feeling!

I like the idea of moving to monthly but keeping the requirements the same (1 post/log/15 comments/etc) and having a purge list. I've been in games with that expectation in terms of activity and found it reasonable.
twotailmechanic: (hmm....)

[personal profile] twotailmechanic 2012-03-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I would suggest doing a minimum of 20 comments in either a network post or a log post. Granted, it might not work for this game like it does in DDD, but I'd thought I throw an idea out there. 15 could work too if 20 seems too much.

Yes, purge list please. Especially with both character name and journal name.

Just personally, I find it easier to handle increased post requirement vs. comment-count.

As the player of a jerk character, there are times when my entire goal is to get the other guy to hang up in about ten comments or less, and those threads would not, technically, even count toward present AC requirements (15 each = 30 comments in a 'perfect', ideal AC-clearing thread).

Otherwise, I'm cool with the things as presented.

The purge list is a great idea!
twotailmechanic: (wtf)

[personal profile] twotailmechanic 2012-03-16 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
How the hell can anyone deal with a weekly AC requirement? I would fail at that since I do other things besides RP a lot of the time. Hell, I remember when I was (very) briefly in [community profile] luceti I failed the AC because I couldn't make enough comments for the month that counted. So yeah I would have a major problem with a weekly one.

Also chiming in here and saying that the purge list is okay, monthly activity requirements, as they are, is fine. I am also someone who has an easier time tagging posts (which sometimes usually wind up breaking the page) and logs, than it is to make a network post for myself. So yeah, I'd like to keep it that way.

YES phew ;u; Especially since I have one game that's weekly AC and two games that are monthly, this game is super relaxed and I have way more than 2-3 things in two months.
im_apimp: (got no apologies for a hyper concussion)

[personal profile] im_apimp 2012-03-16 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes to the purge post! It makes it easier for CR to know who was dropped if they don't have them on plurk/talk to them regularly/what have you.

Also, I'm good with things being bimonthly with multiple things as well. I just have a question: does the 15+ comments apply to both log and network comments?

Oh, yeah, I meant to ask that -- 15's a lot easier to hit on a network post, usually, so I'm not sure if logs just count for participating at all or if they need x number of comments. (I... cannot remember what it is now. :|a)

You can currently provide any number of threads as long as the comments add up to 15. Though if you provide 15 one-comment threads, we might perhaps want to have a talk with you.
theuserabides: (Default)

[personal profile] theuserabides 2012-03-16 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it can be from a log post or a network post.

Log or network is fine, but empty reaction chain comments don't count. :P
im_apimp: (it's cold and it's quiet)

[personal profile] im_apimp 2012-03-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant more in the sense of needing 15+ comments for the activity to count, but I think I get what you mean. Games I've been in the past have had x number of comments for a network thread, but just needed participation for a log.
thecarisboring: (a fool is a devil and a devil's a fool)

[personal profile] thecarisboring 2012-03-16 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Clarification threadjack since I was about to ask this in my comment: So if you participate in a log but can't manage 15+ comments in a log thread, does it still count?

If this is an inappropriate icon, sorry, I'm trying to re-learn my keywords.
theuserabides: (Analyze the ten thousand things.)

[personal profile] theuserabides 2012-03-16 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see. Sorry about the confusion; it's 15 either way, though I do take your point about it being easier to hit 15 on the network than in a log.
