MOD ANNOUNCEMENT -- AC POLICY

First, this is a reminder that Activity Check begins in two weeks on April 1st, so now is the time to start rounding up posts, or make them if you're falling short. AC is one network or log post with comments, or 15 comments in another person's post. For this round all activity since moving to DW counts, so we don't anticipate any reasonably active players having trouble with it. Characters accepted in March are exempt.

Currently, we have a lenient activity check, and we loosened it even more for the move, in anticipation of complications which, happily, didn't occur. Our AC schedule worked just fine when we were a smaller, slower game, but that's no longer the case. Space Prom went to 3,000 comments in a week, and we are facing the fact that our little game is all grown up and ready to borrow the keys and wreck the car.

We have no intention of instituting an unreasonable AC, but we do need to make it more stringent to keep inactive players from affecting their casts and other CR, and there is plenty of room to tighten things up without AC becoming unmanageable. We are currently leaning toward keeping AC bimonthly, but increasing the total number of posts/comments required, probably with a mix-'n'-match system that will accommodate various play styles. However, we'd like your input before making any changes, hence this post. What would you like to see out of a new AC policy? What would you not like to see? We know people would like to have a purge list posted at the end of the AC period. Anything else?

Any changes will not affect this AC round.

Purge list sounds great.

As for the AC...I think that if you're increasing the amount of activity required, making it possible to mix and match things would allow for greater flexibility with everyone's RPing styles.

Keeping the two-month period and increasing the amount of posts/logs/threads seems like it might also work best for people who tag at a more leisurely pace.

It counts, but you'd need to provide the missing comments from somewhere else.

You can mix and match comment threads as long as it adds up to 15.

Seriously?

AHAHAHAHA I'm an idiot. I've been going nuts trying to get my brain to keep conversation threads going to 30+ comments total. I had no idea. I managed it once!

Threadjacking again to say I love you guys for allowing us to do this.

Well, now that a few things have been clarified for me: Basically, what Mari said.

I'm okay with keeping it bimonthly and increasing the total number of posts/comments required as long as we can still mix and match threads to an extent to get the right number of comments. (I honestly didn't realize we could do that and I think it is wonderful since I have so much trouble trying to drag comment threads out to hit 15.)

And a purge list is a great idea.

Well the mods take care of AC so you don't actually do anything but play and tag your posts. It's all actionspam so a lot of the time 20 comments is full of

Voting for yes to purge list, and bimonthly AC with greater requirements. It's not really that hard to hit one thing a month with each character.

I wasn't able to handle it, personally. Between school, other games, and real life stuff, I just didn't have time for a game that pace.

Thirding the purge list!

Seconding(?) the not increasing post count, but possibly increasing pieces of activity like comments.

I was the one that brought the purge list up on Plurk in the first place, but consider this my agreement.

I could easily see doubling the AC, mix and match. Would be easy still, but at the same time, would mean it's harder to drift through AC. (Actually, wouldn't care if it were tripled, personally, with it bimonthly but that's me. Currently have 3 characters in a monthly 2 post AC game as well as my 2 here.)

Voting for a purge list too. Certainly don't want to see only one type of activity count for AC (only posts, only logs, etc..). I've got a character who is extremely apathetic, not likely to bother posting to a network of strangers she cares nothing for and has no CR - I'm probably going to be passing AC from mixing and matching random comments for a while. Lot of AC checks don't take into account characters who are hard to get to post, hoping Sing avoids that trap.

Yes to the purge list! /adds two cents

And I'm fine with an increase in required activity over two months so long as we still have the option to mix and match. Slightly more stringent AC seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I don't exactly blame you there.

Yet another +1 to the purge list.

I have thought for a while that the requirements are a little too lenient for a bimonthly check so yeah, upping the requirements a little is fine by me as long as we can still mix and match.

I like not having to stress out about it if I go through an off period too, though, which is why it's great that it is bimonthly.

[personal profile] slamacow 2012-03-17 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think we should have daily AC requirements that include a post with every single one of our characters, threads of 100+ comments, and a log post every day that breaks 1000 comments. What's more, every player should have to app a new character every single app period in order to stay in the game. Any player who fails to meet these requirements should be immediately banned from the game.

No but seriously, purge list and bimonthly multi-thread requirements sounds good :|b

+1 on purge list.

as for the AC requirements. what I love about sing's AC is the fact that it has bimonthly activity check, which somehow is more managable for me. like someone up there said, it allows you to have some days / weeks off in the AC period without having to stress about making the AC. perfectly up for raising the requirements to 3 pieces of mix-'n'-match activity. as I understand it it doesn't have to be just three but could be 5 pieces of AC just so that the amount of comments sums up to the requirement? that's something that should clear in how the requirements on the AC page are worded. perhaps it should just say how many comments over all there need to be, that they need to be from three different links and for how many comments a network post counts? if ... that makes sense. x_x

IDK If it's bi-monthly I'd rather it be something like

Oh here's 4 options

> a network entry
> a log entry
> participation in a log (15< comments belonging to you)
> participation in a network entry (15< comments belonging to you)

Use two of those to prove you've been active since the last AC and you're good.

Or a monthly one with 1 of those 4 as proof of AC, since it pretty much amounts to the same thing anyway.

Those seem like the easiest solutions to me.
