What is the HMD? The HMD is an optional meme in which players can receive concrit and feedback on how they handle their characters. Please remember to be constructive in your feedback; flaming will not be tolerated on this meme.

Please note that while receiving positive feedback is also nice, it's much nicer to know exactly why someone might think they're doing a good job. Try to be specific as possible, although there's no rule saying you have to.

I thought I was just being regular old aggressive. Seriously, though, if I do something like you're worried about, tell me. Because it won't be on purpose. I've been in games where the godmoders ran free and it is not something I would do to someone else.

Maria sees machines, programs and AI's as people. When she 'gets an ATM to give her money' (am I overusing that?) it's by asking it, if it's complex enough for conversation. "Hey, can I have some money?" She'll talk it up, make friends with it. Forcing it to do something is the same to her as forcing a flesh and blood person to do something. It's...repugnant. She did it when she absolutely had to, and she would do it again if she absolutely had to, but it's not something she'll just do on a whim, or with any sort of regularity.

On the other hand, something like a code-locked security door, that's basically just a number-recognition program? She can't talk to that, but she can make it open. There's no real moral gray-area there.

When she says 'AI's like me', it's not that she's forcing them to like her. Imagine if you were the AI that controlled a subway system. You spend your entire day going back and forth along the same route full of people ignoring you, and then someone comes along and asks you what you think of the weather or if any of the passengers look funny today.

She makes an impression, and treats them better than other people, and they like her for it. Mostly. She hasn't actually met any of Sing's AI's yet, though...I'm really looking forward to that.

I'll see about putting up a permission post. I'm never really sure what to do with those, because personally...I never remember to respond to them, and I know lots of other people don't either. I guess I'm more the 'dude, this might happen, it could be fun what do we do?!' sort of spur of the moment type.

If you're still worried, talk to me about it. Preferably not anonymously (I sort of have a...thing about anonymous comments that is totally not your fault at ALL but there it is. You're actually a mostly pleasant faceless internet voice.) but even anon if you must. I will do what I can to soothe your worries.

I've been kind of fail with Red, Virgil, and Pyro lately. I'm going to try to correct this soon. Once the aftermath of the event settles down, I'm thinking about opening up the LAZERTAG/PAINTBALL log if anyone is interested in that...

Uhhhh also: I feel like my voice for Jack has leveled out since the last time I posted up here, but if where it's landed seems off to anyone, I'd like to know about it HERPA DERP.

I know another anon already brought this up, but I'd like to elaborate on it a bit. You do come across as being overly pushy with your characters. While there's nothing wrong with wanting to form CR with/join certain groups, I would recommend slowing down and letting it happen naturally; otherwise the effect is sort of like shoving your face up against someone else's and breathing heavily.

One thing I've noticed you doing somewhat frequently is replying without contributing ('no transmission'/'not here' comments. Unless it's to mention/add something relevant (___ hacked the post but didn't say anything, etc.) it can be distracting. It's fine as an occasional joke, but seeing and receiving it over and over can get a bit tiresome.

IDK YOUR CANON BUT: Vaultie is consistently amazing. It's one of those STOP AND STALK EVERYTHING situations. His reactions to HAL, Gardenia, and Gamzee are god-tier.

Sometimes it comes off as super plucky and happy-go-lucky and SING NEEDS MORE OF THIS. Never stop.

Jun: MAN SO COOL. His voice comes off as really strong/consistent. He's really chill and laid back, but has those occasional FREAKOUTS and it is amazing to see his brain break.

Seven: SOB WHY DONT I KNOW ANY OF YOUR CANONS? But it is always a pleasure to thread with Seven. She's fierce, somewhat feral, and I really look forward to seeing some more recovery type stuff? I know you're having trouble getting her out there, but I'm sure that you can fix it! I want to see her bounced off of more people! More fights! More spears! ALL THE SPEARS.

Anon's characterization in the game is basically "Bad things happening? I WILL TRY HARDER!" and that comes through in your playing. (Incidentally, I think giving him a voice was a good decision, since there are only a handful of people who can read his body language.)

I've never actually seen anything past T2, so that's about as useful as I can be.

Passive-aggressive or just 'regular old aggressive' behavior helps nobody. Let's work this out.

The way you're phrasing things still seems to come across as 'she can and will make them do what she wants', regardless of the other AI's feelings on the matter. I understand that she will try to cozy up to them, try and make friends, and generally be very nice; and this is a wonderful character trait to have. But you seem to be assuming that the AI she makes contact with will go along with what she wants.

There will be AI/programs that will not be so friendly -- but who are still susceptible to her powers, as they will have been made at an earlier time than her/her world. Take, for example, the programs (from Tron!verse). They are literally computer programs. From the example you gave (the number-recognition program), you make it seem like she can make it do whatever she wants it to do. I can tell you that most players won't want to tag a character that can potentially godmod their character into doing stuff they wouldn't otherwise do.

I'm probably phrasing this oddly, and I'm very sure you wouldn't use this power maliciously or as an opportunity to mess with characters. But I would strongly advise you to throw up a permissions post, just in case anyone would like to let you know what is and isn't cool with Maria doing stuff with their characters.

OOC contact is good and all! And I'm glad you're offering that. But sometimes a permissions post is the easiest way to soothe someone's worries.

I apologize for being so slow with tags, especially recently. I have no idea where my brain has run off to.

I haven't gotten to the trolls in Homestuck, but the shipping post was the greatest thing in the history of ever. I can't wait for the tea party. ♥

I put up a permission post.

And I'm not expecting anything. Maria is, she's used to AI's that like her, and she's going to be disappointed when they don't, but I'm not expecting it from anyone. Their characters can react however they want their characters to react. If you're getting that I expect characters to do whatever my character tells them to, you're wrong.

And honestly, she's going to be fascinated by the TRON programs. A program designed for one specific task, and yet complex enough to have its own personality? She'll think that's amazing. She wouldn't force them to do anything. She'll probably try to talk to them a lot, though. The fact that the TRON programs do have complex personalities, the fact that they can interact with other people and make informed decisions and disagree with people outside the scope of their basic programming probably makes them just as difficult for Maria to manipulate as any other AI.

Look, in simplest terms, you don't have to worry about her using this power. It's something she would use if someone was trying to kill her, or keeping her imprisoned. If she were trapped in the SHODAN event she'd be trying (and most likely failing) to force SHODAN to let her go. It's not going to come up in the normal course of play, not against other PC's. It exists because it's a part of her power set the same way a telepath can manipulate a flesh-and-blood brain. If someone was playing Jean Gray here, it would be the same exact situation.

That doesn't mean she will.

It's much appreciated Kuruma and even though you haven't seen Salvation I'd appreciate you pointing out anything that I do with adult!john that you think conflicts with kid!john. While he's gone through a lot of changes I still want to keep him consistent as it's not like he was retconned, or anything. Also sometimes just having to go through and explain why he changed helps reinforce his voice so I really don't mind explaining things.

I don't mind explaining out why I think adult!john would do something differently and hey if in the process I find out I was wrong it's all good. Win/win in my book.
