I apologize for sounding passive-aggressive. It was completely unintentional. I use my speaking voice when replying OOC and I just talk like this. It's very frustrating.

In the future, if I sound passive-aggressive, will you please tell me? It's something I want to avoid.

I'm not sure what canon point you took SAC Motoko from, but I assume it's from around Solid State Society? Her personality is pretty similar to movie Motoko's at that point, so I feel qualified to give a read on this.

The cruelty is more a function of not knowing how to express emotion properly than actually wanting to hurt. She's not going to jump at openings, she's just going to attack in that "the best defense is a good offense" way if someone's getting close to a touchy subject.

SSS Motoko is arguably more of a bitch than movie Motoko (see: You did what to Togusa?) but it's more from callousness and focus on results than active malice.

So I think maybe less proactive bitchery, more reactive bitchery may the be answer to what people are picking up on here.

I have never ever watched A Space Odyssey. I know the "I don't think so Dave" part and I think David Bowie might be in that movie? Is David Bowie in it? I don't even know. But I do want to see I've seen around that sometimes you are unsure about HAL and I love him dearly. His CR with Vaultie is some of my favorite CR in a long time.

Well, considering she hasn't actually used them at all yet, I'm not really sure where the worry comes from. It's a power that would mostly come into play, say...forcing a security door to open, or bypassing a food regulator. Or convincing ATM's to give her money. It's generally used for non-intelligent machines. Could it be used on an AI? Yes. But, as in her history, it took her years to force the AI's in her building to let her leave. And we're talking late twenty-first century artificial intelligences that probably weren't exceptionally advanced.

Considering how complex the AI's are in sing, the odds of it working at all are fairly slim. And if it were going to come up, I would talk to the other players first and work out if it could/should/would. This isn't my first run at powers that can be abused. I went to the mods and cleared the power concept with them before I even submitted the app, since I knew very well it could be a problem.

Have I given any sign at all that this would be a problem?

The fact that you have the balls to play HAL wows me. I fricken love you for it, ohmigosh. I must stalk furiously.

As for Kanaya, I love her so much. She's just so... darling. Darling Kanaya. I love how, during the Marker shenanigans, she could (mostly) keep it together, despite experiencing some crazy shit. Ahhh, I love her so much and want to thread with you forever and ever.

Ed, you have so little canon, and that is a travesty.

However, you have taken his entire one scene and turned him into a thoroughly interesting and incredibly engaging character. He is tons of fun to play with and to watch and the fact that he turned in Leader Man in the SHODAN plot while still being an asshole is amazing too.

This is awesome and you should feel awesome.

Thanks, though. That's really nice. I try hard to be clever, if I can, when picking a name. It's something you might have trouble changing later, so it's better to do it right, the first time around, yeah? I kind of dislike standaloneshell, but I'm so used to it now that I wouldn't change it anyways.

Thank you! I'm honestly a bit worried about playing an OC, I haven't done it in an organized game in years. It's...refreshing, though. Stuff does need to calm down before she can be out and about.

Hey, there's no need to get passive-aggressive here. This is more of a once-burned, twice-shy reaction on my part than anything against you personally. The phrasing in her app just has me a little bit worried about what she can do with those powers- and not all of the AI here are ~super advanced~ and ~from the future~. The Tron programs are all from 1989, for example, and they're presumably a lot less complex than even the AI Maria dealt with in-canon.

I don't have any RP history with you, so I have no way of knowing whether or not this is your first shot at potentially exploitable powers. All I had to go on was your app, and as someone who plays a character who could be potentially affected by Maria's powers? Yeah, I'm a little concerned. I am glad, however, that you'd talk it out with the other players first, since a lot of people don't necessarily do even that much, and I hope I'm wrong about what I'm saying here and that you wouldn't do this. (I would still suggest putting up a permissions post, though. It's just a pre-emptive thing.)

Anyway, I assume he's good karma? He seems pretty correct for that path earlyish in the game to me. Naive, wanting to do the right thing, but callous in weird, post-apocalyptic ways.
