Plotting Post: "Your EDI and You!"

Or, "How to put up a plotting post way hella late in the day!"

So, this Dead Space plot is pretty exciting for me, for this reason: "The pulse has canonly disrupted many computer systems, though, and may scramble them."

Now, according to Mass Effect wiki, (correct me if I'm wrong) EDI's AI core, like the Geth, is a quantum computer, which is a very awesome thing for many reasons. However, it's also a thing that prevents EDI from transferring out of her core, since the quantum states in it are basically what defines her. You could turn it off and on again, but then the quantum states would be different and whatever's in there wouldn't be EDI anymore. It might add up to "an AI" but it won't necessarily be a desirable one.

Oh wait.

Did you say that there's a signal coming from a creepy monolith that's going to scramble computers and make AI all strange, if they're affected? Whoops. >:3

Rampant AI are awesome, right you guys? Right?

So the basic idea is, in some fashion, EDI gets affected by the Pulse from the Marker. Trace and I have concocted a plan in which EDI and Joker go on a "IT'S NOT A DATE, IT'S BABYSITTING" in a zone conveniently near the plot and EDI ends up getting screwed over via that direction when a newly-made necromorph hops out and mauls her android body. She leaves it there as basically a security camera and Joker gets out alive but the beacon is still affecting something that is ostensibly attached to her consciousness.

You with me still? Yes? Good, awesome.

Because from that point on, it all goes downhill.

EDI will begin deteriorating as more and more of her mind gets...for lack of a better term, mutated by the pulse's scrambling effects. At first it'll be perception issues, then it'll get worse until she's hacking the door controls to lock everyone out of Normandy Haus, giggling like a crazy, lying in an attempt to get her crew into deadly situations, and generally pulling a less-than-subtle GLaDOS on everyone.

And in the end, when everything's gone, she'll flip over to being some other AI. Not one that's evil, but one that very seriously dislikes you, and is incredibly unhelpful. It is presumed that the Normandy crew may have a problem with this.

At some arbitrary point, Joker pulls the plug in an epic sadfaec death scene and a very very confused EDI pops out of the Kurzweil teleporter, since that was when her AI core was last teleported anywhere.

Meanwhile, mayhem, rudeness, network shenanigans, ect.

necromorphs aren't showing up until at least a week into the event, so is this just gonna be a one-week mini thing for the mass effect cast and friends? :O

Yes that is the plan unless you have a good way to break EDI's shit and get her affected earlier.

Now while I'm all good with whatever everyone wants to do with their characters, I'd love to get an idea of what everyone was going to be doing? Especially since I'm waffling over what to do with Shepard during all these shenanigans.

Mica and Trace have a plan, but anyone else want to plot some DeadSpace/AI Takeover shenanigans?

Initially I had planned to shove Shepard into HAL's zone but with the events combined...I'm leaning more toward having her deal with DeadSpace instead of AI Takeover. Crazy hallucination and necromorphs just sound more entertaining. Especially since she has a gun and isn't afraid to shoot first.

On a related note: who doesn't mind Shepard shooting them?

I was initially like 'would this kind of thing affect mr weirdbrain?' I don't... actually see why not. And all the beginning symptoms are all normal to him so he'll just be like 'oh i'm just having a bad Biotic day I'm gonna go pop an asprin and lie down for ten hours 8D'

THOUGH SOMETHING HAS OCCURRED TO ME, HIKU. Kaidan is typically a very mellow person so the aggression thing isn't a huge threat to him. However he tends to have trouble controlling his mellow around Shepard. And there are still all those unresolved issues he's got with her.

one day they'll be able to talk without violence somehow being involved. today is not that day.

The Marker will be screwing Legion's systems up during the beginning of the event, which will compromise him enough for him to end up a victim of GLaDOS. Haven't hashed out anything more than that.

Perhaps GLaDOS encounters him while he's having massive errors? She's already so damned glitchy, I doubt even the Marker could mess her systems up worse than they already are. She'd totally offer to help get him back up to spec.

And by Spec, I mean she'll install her OS in his head. (An outdated system which Legion's geth programs will be able to overwrite without issue once the Marker is gone, doubtless, but convenient for our temporary purposes.)

WRONG JOURNAL BUT I very much enjoy this idea. Legion would be desperate enough to get back to spec that he'd jump at the offer of help.

So far it sounds like it might be more nerve wracking if EDI locks the Normandy crew inside the building, given how eager we all are to kill people, talk with hallucenations, and bludgeon each other.

Too bad we're not in Zone 08.

If you want someone to kill Kasumi, though, Shepard does need to cap someone. :D I totes volunteer.

Primarily, Thane will just be focused at first on fighting off hallucinations of Irikah using his PERFECT MEMORY DESU. For this event, he'll be trying to keep his cool. He's got your back, Shepard. :|a

But it's good to know someone has her back. She's going to be crazy paranoid...yanno, moreso than usual.

She'll also keep reminding him that his wife is dead, if you want. Yanno, moreso than usual.

Be prepared for FLASHBACK MOMENTS and mumblings to himself about said flashbacks.

I GOT YOU, SHEPARD.

So, after some discussion with Hiku, here's what I've figured out for Garrus:

-He'll be affected by the pulse and he will very quickly begin descending into all-out paranoia and jumpiness.

-He'll start talking to two groups of hallucinations. One will be "dead" Shepard from when she died the first time, who will be convincing him that his Shepard is really a clone. And that he needs to kill her before she kills him or hands them all over to Cerberus for experiments. This will extend to the point where he starts seeing almost everyone as a Shepard clone and he's going to end up in a tower somewhere, shooting at people a la Ned Flanders from that one scene in the Simpsons. This is going to really fuck with him emotionally.

The second hallucination(s) will be his dead squadmates (which may or may not include Sidonis) who will be simply talking to him at first. After a while, they'll start trying to convince him to commit suicide to make up for his "failure" at leading them or protecting them. This may or may not end up going through, but there will probably be a Turian necromorph.

So yeah. Good times.

So, Mass Effect People (feel free to jack this for other casts, too, guys, it's a sweet idea):

How would any of you feel about playing other people's hallucinations? (Assuming they're hallucinating your character, or a character you don't mind them commandeering?)

Because playing hallucination Shepard for other people sounds like a bitching good time to me. Similarly, I'd love some people playing their own hallucinations in Shepard's paranoid fantasies.

if anyone is actually hallucinating kaidan i'd be happy to play him for them. additionally i can probably fake it with most other ME characters if need-be. HOWEVER I do think Kaidan is stable enough to limit his hallucinations to just Ashley. She'd really be the only thing that'd shake him, and honestly she's the only thing he needs.

I'm going to. Just claim FOR NOW that a higher-dimensional processor negates most of the effects towards my dude, unless for some reason he actually goes to try and pick up the damn Marker. Mainly because enabling them would probably trigger some things I don't quite want to deal with this early in his CR here. As much as I love drama and stuff, I'm wanting to save mine up so it has more oomf down the line eh-heh.
