MINI-EVENT COMING RIGHT UP
Why hello there, Singularity! How are we doing? Enjoying sanity being returned to the station? Oh, good. Because Sollux is about to make life that much more annoying all over again.
So, those who aren't canon familiar: Sollux is a hacker. He is the best hacker ever. He makes viruses that do things like make computers explode and curse the owners and everyone they meet, boot sector worms are just soooo~ cliche. He hacks holes through fucking spacetime. He has been really fucking bored in Sacrosanct, and when hacker boy gets bored, hacker boy makes viruses. c:
Since he's been mostly unable to sleep during the day like he normally would the past few weeks he's been using that spare time to work on a new present just for the network. Please feel special now. As such I'm going to be posting an entry soon - which will be clearly labeled OOC - which will have a virus embedded inside it, for those who pay attention to Sollux or just want to drop in on his stuff. Consider this an opt-in mini event!
What does this virus do?
The visible effect depends on what you want it to do. This mini-event is for everyone to play with and have fun. You want it to loudly broadcast porn audio for days? That's okay. You want it to make all your text Zalgo-style? Sure, go ahead. The virus has a "randomization" effect added that embeds itself in every wearable differently. You decide what you wanna do and how silly you want it to get. Please keep in mind that none of the effects will be physically harmful! Sollux is pulling a prank, he's not a soulless monster.
Okay, that's the visible effect. Any others?
Yes, actually. This virus's other function is something like a Trojan, allowing Sollux to see which wearables have it, spy on their conversations and take remote control of their wearables. HE WILL NOT BE ABUSING THIS UNLESS SOMEONE SPECIFICALLY ASKS ME TO. Except maybe for the spying, he is nothing if not a nosy bastard.
Does that mean that network devices will turn on randomly?
If you want them to, feel free to assume that they do. Sollux is having fun right now and is liable to do things like that just for shits and giggles. This part you don't have to ask me for if you want to do it, herpa derpa. Unless it will have some bigger effect, in which case please do run it by me so I know what's going on.
My character is an AI/cyborg/etc. Will they be hacked by this virus?
No. The virus only applies to the OS of the wearables. Your machine-type characters will not start acting high because their wearable is infected.
Can my character fix the virus/trace the virus back to Sollux?
I'd prefer that not happen for the duration of the event. Keep in mind that he is a very good hacker and this event isn't going to last long. If you opt in, please opt in for the event, not for character to character oneupmanship. Rest assured there will be opportunity for ICC if anyone wants it.
How is the virus transmitted?
It is for certain transmitted by replying to the entry it's embedded in. For those who don't want to reply/have no IC reason to, there is a chance that just viewing it will transmit it too, so you can assume that that chance came true for your character.
My character is Sollux's friend! Will he take pity on them and fix it?
Depends. Some people, maybe, if he feels bad about it. Others, he'll just sit back and laugh at their misfortune. (Karkat, I'm looking at you.)
When does this event start?
Sometime this week, depending on when I'm feeling it/have the time.
How long is this event going to last? What happens then?
Three days. At that point, Sollux will flush his virus from every wearable that has it and announce to the network that they have been well trolled.
My character is going to want to kill him for this!
Your character obviously has anger issues, but I am certainly more than happy to accept ICC that comes barreling my way for this. He's just prankin' but I don't mind people trying to chastise him or threaten him or recruit him for their shady operations or MAKE HIM PAY or what have you. Not that it'd do a terrible amount of good, herp derpa derp.
So, if you would like your character to participate in the event, please comment to this post with what characters of yours will be affected and what their virus does/ideas for how Sollux can make their lives even more embarrassing/requests for ICC so I can keep track of everything.
