We will definitely have to set up a contingency for characters who arrive during the event. Additionally, with Hypatia offline, I doubt anyone will want to leave the rift unmonitored or lose access to the junkyard.
Getting to that conclusion in game, live and through play would be amazing and would definitely encourage immediate CR with new characters, negative or positive, in a direct way that the network really couldn't facilitate before. I love it to death!
As for restoring the status quo, or something similar, I think that's not out of the question either! I'd love to think something up as a group but, excited as I am, I think that might be pushing the limits of hypothetical planning and treading directly on the mod's toes.
I am in no way against it, even if Hypatia herself is restored, don't get me wrong! I'd love a PC or group of PCs to be directly responsible for that, too! It would be an amazing turn of events and lead to some really interesting character development (DO WE or DON'T WE turn her back on? OH GOD.), but I think the end of this event might be directly related to the consequences? And that, well, firmly in mod territory.
I don't think it's out of the question to have basic power, even general functionality restored to sections of the station, over time. Getting everyone's water, lights, and flying cars back in order...even if we don't have organ printers and robot butlers (except Clu) available. It would be a daunting task, but someone above suggested that it would be logical to have a civilian government doling out work orders for just that purpose. That idea, I am absolutely in love with.

Oh but now I'm rambling. FFFF.
