That new-comm smell

Welcome to the first official post on Dreamwidth, Singularity! This is your OOC settling-in post where you can ask questions and just generally throw your stuff all over the place and start making it home.

First of all, please comment to the shiny new Taken page so that your DW accounts can be added. Also, if you haven't made your app available somewhere on DW yet, please do so.

Second, the new Reserves page is open for business. There are a couple of days left in the reserve round, and you can reserve here or on LJ. Both pages will be kept up-to-date, and use of the LJ one will be discontinued next round. (All the information pages are being started new on DW, because constantly logging into the LJ-side mod account with OpenID to maintain the old ones would be rather defeating the purpose.)

Third, we've decided to deviate from the timeline a little and allow posting in the crack comm starting...now. We know some people can't even load LJ or are getting headaches just from looking at it, and it's been long enough without them being able to participate. The mod CR with Me meme will still go up on the 9th as scheduled, and IC posting starts on the 13th.

Fourth, here are some resources with DW-specific information:

• LJ to DW transition FAQ, including a guide to DW-specific tags.
  
• Importing LJ layouts to DW.
  
• Turning off custom comment pages: go here and uncheck "Show my journal's entry pages in my chosen style instead of the site skin."
  
• Making DW comment pages look like LJ's old default layout.
  
• CSS tables on DW.
  
• Profile coding on DW.

And finally, we've set up a few threads in comments already, but you don't have to stick to those if you've got something that doesn't fit any of them.

Hell, might as well copy the timeline over here:

January 8: Extended December reserve round ends. January app round begins. All apps should be submitted on the DW app post. Accepted characters from this round should join the DW comms and not the LJ ones.

January 9: CR with Me in DW crack community. This will run for a few days before game posting opens up and will be open to new characters who've apped this round on DW.

January 13: End of IC posting on LJ, beginning of IC posting on DW. The LJ comms will be set to moderated submissions at this point.

January 22: End of January app round, beginning of January reserve round.

February 1: End of January reserve round. Beginning of February app round.

February 15: End of February app round. Beginning of February reserve round.

February 29: Leap Day! Assuming comment importing for communities with large comment counts is live, this will be the end of backtagging on LJ. You can keep commenting to the old comms if you want, but we don't guarantee your comments after this point will be imported to DW.

March 1: One last round of comment importing from LJ begins. Singularity runs solely on DW at this point. The LJ accounts will remain, but be unused.

April 1: Activity Check. Only DW activity will count.

Arrange for Paypal proxies here if you're not able to pay DW by credit card. Also request/pledge paid accounts, or arrange for icons/fic/art trades if you'd like. We'd like to get everyone started out right, and buying paid accounts and icon packages helps fund DW, which has no ads and runs solely off revenue from selling upgrades to users.

Please don't feel like you're imposing to ask for a paid if you can't afford one. We're a community, and communities support each other. Likewise, please don't feel obligated to offer. Sing has a lot of players, and we can spread the costs out enough that no one feels pinched.

Hmm. Well, I'm unsure of the percentage of those receiving, but I can offer at least something, in the "just in case" category.

I can create graphics of many kinds, icons and banners including, can write (omg poetry too) or draw you a some-something, and can code some simplistic HTML and some Javascript. If you'd care for any of these services, I can provide them in exchange for paid time to a requesting user.
