ANNOUNCEMENT
ALTERNATE UNIVERSE APPLICATIONS
As some of you already know, several changes have recently been made to our policies regarding applying for characters from alternate universes (AUs).
Following a change in staff and further discussion on the matter, it has been decided that we will no longer be accepting canonmashes or AUs which involve and/or borrow aspects from other canons or outright crossover. As stated in the rules, AU applications were originally permitted in Sing in order to accommodate characters with flexible canons, such as Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard, and otherwise “canon” characters that are being brought in with CR from another roleplay game.
We are still open to AU applications but we encourage applicants to please carefully consider the “Better Off As Fanfic” rule. Some AU scenarios are simply too far away from the original canon premise, and characters from such AUs become that much more difficult for a cast to interact with and also for the app team to judge in terms of ICness. If your AU contains a massive overhaul of the entire canon premise or the world or major plot elements, or the character is otherwise difficult to recognize as themselves, that particular AU may be better off as fanfiction.
Characters which have been already accepted into the game are being grandfathered through, and have nothing to worry about. The only exception to this would be if those characters are dropped from the game and re-apped at a later point, at which time they would have to be rejudged.
If anyone has questions about an AU they plan to app, please feel free to contact an app team member or a mod to look it over. We are not out to auto-deny every single AU application that we might receive, and we are happy to work with potential applicants if they have questions. Please have as much information on your AU on hand as possible, as knowing all the details upfront will make the process easier for all parties involved.
We would also like to remind everyone that the current limit on character duplicates is 1 canon version and 2 AU versions. AU versions do include characters with previous game CR. However, we would like to ask that potential applicants please consider other options before they choose a duplicate of someone already in the game, as it quickly becomes difficult for canonmates to deal with three versions of any given character.
PLAYER ACTIVITY
Finally, as of this app round, we will be taking player activity into account during the app process. Insufficient activity with your current characters will result in your apps being automatically rejected until the issue is resolved. Sufficient activity in this case would be at least one post/log per character per month. If you are unsure if your activity with a current character is sufficient prior to applying for a new character, please feel free to contact a mod or app team member.
EDIT: July's app round is already a week in and some apps are already in queue. Rather than enforce the rule this round, we are rather taking activity into account from here on (ie August's round). Characters apped in the July round do count towards the activity rule for August's round. Not every app is going to be subject to activity check and there will be exceptions.
ex: A player has 4 characters and wants to app a 5th. Out of the 4 characters, three of them meet the activity requirements, but the 4th only has comments. A case like this would slide.

Are the Activity Check requirements being altered as well? From what I can tell, the Activity Check requires what is stated here but with the additional option of 15+ comments on someone else's post.
If the Activity Check requirements are not being altered, I find it somewhat unfair to restrict applications to players passing AC whose characters are likely to have reason to create posts. I can understand logs as a sufficient alternative; however, when it comes to posts, there are characters which are enjoyable to play but whose personalities (whether shy, unforthcoming, unoriginal in thought, reactive, finding others more interesting than themselves, and so on) are not conducive to making posts often without it being out of character. These characters may be quite likely to respond to others but not ICly take initiative themselves.
I am also wondering whether this means a completed log. As logs can continue on for quite some time, that would have an entirely different meaning than what is stated here.
Thank you very much.

The stipulation on activity is more of a precaution against serial apping without being active and a reminder to the players to reflect on what they can handle rather than a punishment. Usually a player has weeks of time in advance to prepare their characters for the app period, especially if they feel like their activity would be questionable. To put bluntly, if the player hasn't done much in the way of participation in the game in a whole month, then perhaps their focus are better put towards gaining activity for their characters rather than adding more to their roster.
A post or a log is sufficient and the log participation can be in logs created by other people. They do not need to be finished logs, but it'd be preferable that the log was created within or that most of the activity was done within the overview period. Threads are not immediately applicable since it would mean that mods would have to search for them and that would hold up the application judging further. Players who feel they have been active but do not have the logs/posts so show it (and fear that we may make a case of it) are welcome to make their own case with links to their activity with every character they play. Again, within the month before the application period.
