 Guess who's back? Sonny that's who!

Here's an unfortunately named robot with a bunch of problems including: a crippling father complex, a bad case of hero worship, and currently a very serious infliction of the broken. Sonny arrived a year ago, and has been caught in a teleporter error since September of last year. Anyway, when he's not being a gymnastic killbot of death, he's trying to fill the void in his positronic heart (anatomically his second positronic brain) with anyone shaped like a doctor (of the PHD variety), a detective, an older man, or possessing the qualities of: a badass motorcyclist, a therapist, or anyone that seems nice and works with virtual intelligences.

Sonny was last seen murdering Red and trying (in vain) to adopt an older Bruce Wayne as a father figure. He doesn't much like nonhumans, doesn't know anything about animals (he thinks Thane is a cat), is kind of terrified of people (unless they have the characteristics mentioned above), and has the built in instinct to protect and serve humans at the cost of his life. He's impossibly good at everything except people-skills and honesty.

Now fresh out of a Sacrosanct teleporter loop that cost him 8 months of his non-life, he's skittishly fleeing back to the abandoned robot museum to hide forever.

His current damage stands at: a busted up leg, a burnt up hand and arm, broken neck joints, and general scratches all over; so he pretty much looks like a mess.

PS: if any of you guys ever want to have the stuffing kicked out of your characters by a robot who can climb walls and punch through steel, just let me know. Alternatively, Sonny is up for being the kickee if you know someone who wants to throw their weight around, but doesn't want to beat on those organic and squishy.

I did't know Flynn had a PhD!

Also, Kevin will never be rid of the little robot. Seriously, Sonny will be non-breathing down his neck 24/7. The poor guy's kind of emotionally clingy and ... clingy. Are you sure you want that?

Caltech, 1980. It's canon! And it's not like he goes around mentioning it. Maybe five people on the station know, and they're all from his world.

...Have you seen the kind of emotional basket-case Clu is? Flynn's used to it.

Exactly. It might not be good for Flynn's health.

Would Flynn be able to fix him? Sonny's a totally different model... though his two computer brains are both intact.

No, I only know the book, which I understand is a major obstacle to enjoying the film.

Flynn is a genius, and he does canonically do impossible things with 80s technology, but he'll probably ask Geordi for help if the subject comes up. (Data having a positronic brain is a shout-out to Asimov.)

Yeaaaaah, I think it would be easiest to see the film without knowledge of how AMAZING Asimov is, and then learning that the book is out there. Still the movie wasn't bad; I liked it for the special effects and the robots were adorable.

Do you think Flynn would want to take a gander at an old robot museum? I'd like for him to find Sonny, even if he can't fix him. Though only the mechanicals bits of Sonny are broken, so it wouldn't require any dicking around with his futuristic brain. [I didn't know Data had a positronic brain!]

Flynn wanders around aimlessly all the damn time, much to the dismay of the people trying to keep him from getting killed. (It's a Zen thing. You wouldn't understand.) A robot museum is right up his alley.

Anon-mun and I were thinking Anon would meet Sonny, and when things don't go chill, Anon would go fetch his computer god to fix the little guy up?

Maybe Flynn could figure out / take an educated guess where Sonny's going back to hide?

Sure, that sounds good. He's currently fixing EDI's body, so his interest is piqued, anyway.

Like Flynn doesn't adopt enough strays on his own, now his people are bringing stays to him.

Oh! And did Flynn ever read any Asimov in his time?

Would he be familiar with the concept of the 3 laws?

I'm torn on that one. On the one hand, he's exactly the right age for it. On the other, there's nothing like the Three Laws in Tron anywhere, and you'd think there would be if Flynn had known about them.

I dunno. The three laws obviously don't work out in the way humanity planned since the robots become our overloads anyway and don't have qualms killing us. [Even if it's to protect the larger population from itself]

Also, Flynn seems like the kind of guy to value freedom, and the 3 laws greatly take away from a programs freedom since you're imposing those kind of behavioral rules on them.

Maybe Flynn would know the endings to these stories [i, robot in general] or his morals would be against it. After all, the programs that he met in the original film didn't have such rules. It seems kind of weird for him to impose that on little guys already ticking along well on their own.

... Then again I don't know a lot about the canon....

Thing is, programs already don't have free will. It's a plot point in Evolution. It's possible Flynn didn't realize this until after the Grid had already been set up, and then it would have been too late to work in.

Your call entirely. Maybe Flynn didn't read a lot of Asimov or maybe he didn't realize till after he'd set up the Grid.

I'm just throwing out ideas. They don't all have to stick.

Also, how physically capable is Flynn? How far could Sonny go with acts of aggression before he gets seriously hurt?

You're right that it would be anathema to him, though. He got really offended on the RvB universe's AIs' behalf about the override codes.

Well, Clu kicks him pretty hard and he gets up okay afterward, but he's 60. He's in great shape for a 60 year-old guy, but he's past his prime and Sonny can PUNCH THROUGH CONCRETE.

So, "not far" is what I'm saying, here. :P

He'll probably only push Flynn around. Not throw him ACROSS A ROOM INTO A WALL and then a day later assume that the throwee will be his buddy, like he did in the film.
