A temporary workaround for a broken fan is to remove the side of the tower and place an actual fan their, pointed inward. It'll displace the heat to allow the computer to run until you can replace the actual component. It won't run quite as cool as normal but it's not dangerous.

...If it's a laptop your kinda out of luck, though.
