I... am going to be honest and say that the canon update thing really makes way less sense than the usual "You go home, but while you're home your memories are sealed off / you assume this was all just a dream" explanation. It seems needlessly convoluted and just plain bizarre.

Also, what if your character is dead in their canon and they get updated?
