Erik too is from the beach scene in Cuba, just before the whole bullet thing going down, but his time @ CS has basically punted him post-movie with several minor caveats, all addressed in his conveniently linked application for your perusal.

He spent about 7 months at CS before the game dropped to musebox status and basically declared mutantkind still superior to everything else and now has a raging hatred for anyone from Star Wars. Just so you know. Plus he's also well aware of the 616 Erik & Charles as well as futureverse movie Erik & Charles and other things in between (like sentinels, thanks marvel), so all these things about alternate timelines? Highly plausible. o/

IDK if you've read the Hellfire Club arcs in New Mutants (I don't recommend it; NM v1 is pretty bad), but she is canonically very good at that, and she does so enjoy having the heavy hitters on her side.

Friendly-adversarial. She scraped his ass off the pavement after he picked a fight with the Avengers, talked him down from several Charles-related temper tantrums, and was generally trying to keep him on the Magnificent Bastard rather than the Complete Monster side of supervillainry.

...Also she thinks he's hot and she hasn't seen Scott since December. *cough* (NM hinted heavily that she and Magneto were sleeping together.)

I fell off the Uncanny bandwagon when they put Land and Fraction on it for #500. I read stuff as it shows up on MDCU now.

I actually stopped Uncanny around the same point, but I picked it up again with the reboot just out of curiosity, and I feel like I need it for Magneto's characterization on occasion.

He hasn't really been a monster in the comics since the late 70s/early 80s. Ruthless and a complete dick, but with noble motives he's utterly fucking terrible at putting into practice. I'd question the ICness of someone playing him as a monster unless their canon point was in the mid-70s sometime. Hell, for the last couple years, Scott's been way more of a jerk than Mags has. (Poor Scott; nobody can write the guy.)

Playing comics characters is really a matter of putting together a characterization you like from the various story arcs, since they bounce around so much depending on who's writing. I use a mix of Morrison and Whedon for Emma, and that seems to keep people happy.
