THE RIFT EVENT: 1st announcement
Hello, Singlings! Pen here to announce the coming of a good old-fashioned gamewide event. Shortly after the Dark Samus plot, just when you all thought it was safe to leave your homes again, Jin is going to do something really dumb and make life difficult for everyone on the station for several days. Basically, he's going to poke the rift.
THE LEAD-IN
As some of you know, Jin has been studying the rift for the better part of a year now. Most of his studies have consisted of data collection, as per his dumb little monthly sound clip posts. In recent months, however, he has stepped up his game and has been coordinating with other scientists on the station in an effort to actually make the rift work--that is, stabilize it so that people can freely come and go between Sacrosanct and their worlds, or at the very least let people go home.
Recently, he has made a breakthrough. He got his hands on some lyrium from the Dragon Age universe, and with the help of its weird phasing properties, he has been building a rift manipulation machine. He's hoping that using this machine, he can take control of the rift and make it so everyone who wants to go home can do so.
Obviously this won't happen.
THE EVENT
On March 20th, Jin is going to turn his machine on for its first test. The rift isn't going to appreciate being poked. First it's going to gobble Jin and his machine up and Jin will get to experience what being inside a spacetime rift is like. Then, the rift is going to flip out and cause a whole lot of weird stuff to happen all across Sacrosanct.
Basically, physics is going to take a vacation. For ten days, denizens of Sacrosanct will have to deal with spatial and temporal distortions and things slipping in and out of existence. Every two days, something new will happen. For the most part, the weird events that take place will be non-lethal; but that's not to say that things won't be dangerous. You might yourself suddenly unaffected by gravity, or you might find that all the air in your lungs has suddenly turned into water. There will be a timeline for what exactly is happening at a given time, but it will be entirely up to the players what their characters go through.
Then, on March 30th, everything will abruptly snap back to normal. The rift will go back to its usual self, all the weird spacetime and physics shenanigans will right themselves, and Jin will get spat out into the Junkyard. All will again be right with the world, except that people might have some new, exciting or traumatic memories, and a lot of people may be rightly pissed off at Jin.
TL;DR: Jin breaks the rift and physics goes NOPE NOPE NOPE for awhile.
PARTICIPATION
Everyone who wants to take part in this event can do so. Your characters are free to get completely caught up in the physics shenanigans, or they can miraculously find an area of the station that's unaffected. This event might also be an opportunity for some game-plot stuff to happen. Hypatia probably wont' be too happy about all this, after all.
People will have ten days to do stuff or to completely ignore what's going on. Also, anyone on Asphodel at the time will be unaffected; the rift's influence will be restricted to the station. Might be a good time for a vacation to the planet; or perhaps the worst possible time. It's all up to you guys!
I will be making more announcements and releasing a timeline of events over the course of the next several days. The event will start on March 20th and end on March 30th. If you have any comments, suggestions or questions, feel free to leave them here!
