Just like in real life, it's highly dependent on how much your character spends. If you're working a min wage job and your spending habits include buying out at fast food every day, of course you'll be living paycheck to paycheck. If you apply your money towards groceries to make meals instead of eating out all the time, you might have extra to throw towards that new blender or shirt or comic you wanted.
