MUSICAL EVENT HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
WHOOOAAA WATCH OUT ERREBODY I should have made this post sooner, but I am here to announce an upcoming event.
Beginning at midnight, Oct. 9th the Musical Event will start. What is this going to entail, you ask?
So here's how it'll work. Since Sky has been all about the zones collecting plant samples, he's been unknowingly spreading a sentient fungi through each zone. The only zones that will be unaffected are the arctic ones.
Basically this fungi has had a lot of time to take root underground and link itself into one massive, thinking being. People might notice an abundance of mushrooms or a mold-like substance outside, but since this is a thinking creature, it realizes that humans and other high-functioning animals/beings are it's enemy and in order to live it needs to be able to have them distracted. More importantly, it thrives on sound vibration to help it spread. So it will entrap it's victims in a psychic net and induce a mass hallucination. Basically, it's a collective reality in which life is like a musical.
Musical numbers just happen at random, based on the feelings of the individual. If they feel strongly about something, the fungi will feed off it and use it to basically make them sing/dance/what have you. Amongst other things, characters will also here theme-music at times. Like a soundtrack to their life!
Important points:
- Yes, AI/Robots can be affected if they come into direct contact with spores/mushrooms/etc.
-Species is irrelevant
-Since it's a mass hallucination make sure to ridiculous it up. Back up dancers? SURE. Sudden scene changes? Why not? Giant robot sized piano? OKAY!
-Everyone will be under the same hallucination, so if you are affected, you will see/hear what everyone else sees.
-You can opt out for any reason. If you do, you can still see/hear the hallucination and choose not to participate, or you can see/hear what is actually happening: people wailing a capella on the network at each other.
- It can't be controlled, once you're singing, you can't seem to stop. You suddenly know how to dance or play guitar or whatever the number requires. YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN THAT!
-If you are in the vicinity of someone else who is singing, you have a high chance of getting sucked into the song with them.
-Song breakout can happen at any time, even mid-conversation.
-You can be plenty aware that something is wrong with this, especially after you finish singing.
Network posts will look a lot like this to give you an idea.
There will need to be a resolution, so characters can figure it out and come up with some way to take care of the fungi. A vaccine or a pesticide or whatever people figure out.
Plotting can happen here as well.
