Your Name: Carolyn
Character Name: Emma Frost
Character Journal: [personal profile] myownbestfriend
Reference Point of the Canon Update: Death of Captain America (March 2007, or Uncanny X-Men #486, in the middle of the Shi'ar war that doesn't affect her at all)
How Will This Change the Character?:

1. The mutants who survived M-Day with powers intact ("the 198") are confined to the Xavier Institute grounds, guarded by giant mutant-killing robots "for their own safety," because that isn't at all the kind of thing the most powerful mutants in the world would resent. IT'S NOT AN INTERNMENT CAMP WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT.

2. Emma loses another batch of students to people who hate mutants.

3. Her former colleague, Sean Cassidy (Banshee), for whom it's strongly hinted she at one time had feelings, dies.

4. Her boyfriend Scott Summers (Cyclops) has another long-lost family member. This one's a brother. He has one of the most idiotic backstories in comic history, his name is Vulcan, and he's a douche. He's the one responsible for Banshee's death, but he also added a bunch of evidence to the "Professor Xavier is a massive tool" pile. WHICH EMMA KNEW ALL ALONG GLAD THE REST OF YOU ARE CATCHING UP. So she she's torn on the guy.

5. The Breakworld arc of Astonishing concludes. Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) sacrifices herself to save the world, and Emma feels bad, because Kitty is another one of the students she failed.

6. She's not exactly happy with Tony Stark (Iron Man), the architect of most of the events in the Civil War crossover plot, but when it mattered, he came through at great political and personal risk for the 198, which went a good distance toward redeeming him in her eyes. (This is when he was retconned in as an old flame.)

She has little personal development across this time period; it's mostly just a bunch of comic-book insanity in which she runs around being a flawless bitch. The one substantial change is that she feels secure in her relationship with Scott.

tl;dr Things have gotten worse for mutants and Emma's even more down on humans than she was before.

Any Large Items?: Nope.
