Your Name: Jayde Character Name: Barricade Character Journal:namesnotprowl Reference Point of the Canon Update: To his drop from Axiom (i.e. when he gets his exit visa and goes home in April 2011), and then to the end of DotM to shortly before is potential off-screen death via the US military. How Will This Change the Character?: Barricade will be returning with a lot of damage. As far as physical damage, he has lost three of his four optics to sniper fire, and both of his legs below the knee to two well-placed bombs, as well as damage to his upper legs and torso thanks to shrapnel. The optics will be simple enough for him – or another medic – to replace (though their color balance will likely be off for a few weeks until he gets them adjusted to the proper red), though before they are his field of vision will be significantly reduced and his depth perception will be basically nil. His legs will be a whole different affair. They can be repaired, but it will take at least two months for Barricade to gather the supplies and reconstruct them, and likely a while longer than that to get accustomed to walking again, with no guarantee that he will walk without limping. Until then, he won’t be able to access his vehicle mode, as essential parts are still going to be missing, even with his tires located on his arms and shoulders.
More importantly, he’ll be coming back a whole slew of new psychological damage. Thanks mostly to Decepticon comm lines, he knows that Starscream and Shockwave’s driller were both destroyed in combat; compound that with the loss of Soundwave and Megatron’s inability to function – and the Autobots’ stubborn refusal to die – and the whole Chicago thing starts to add up to a major catastrophe in the making. Barricade is smart enough to realize that his home planet, the thing he’s fought to save the entire war, will likely be destroyed once and for. Surviving the destruction of Cybertron was something he’d never expected to do and he will take the loss outrageously hard. He’ll be openly hostile to those in the military and those that support the military on-station (for what he’s suffered), and will also be more hostile to any of his Autobots that happen to already be on or arrive on the station (for their part in the loss of Cybertron). Thankfully with his memories of Axiom intact, he’s less likely to take out his ire on non-Tyrans… though versions of Optimus Prime are likely to get initial bouts of bristling and angry questioning from him. One can never be too sure if they would go the route of his own, after all. He will be wary of dealing with humans, but it won't stop him from conversing with them. The details of what happened he’s likely to keep from other Tyrans, particularly the Autobots, out of some cruel sense of vengeance. He wants them to find out about Sentinel Prime defecting to the Decepticons and the ravaging of Chicago for themselves.
Additionally, the loss of his legs and subsequently the loss of mobility will be a serious blow to his ego and the feeling of self-sufficiency he’s attempted to cultivate recently. He’s going to be less likely to try to hide his anger and frustration with the whole situation, but do his best to reclaim his independence in whatever way is possible… even if that means engaging in unnecessary cruelty towards whoever happens to have mistreated him recently, and especially if it means trying to sublimate that rage into something useful – most likely building or finding himself a wheelchair built for giant freaking robots.
Any Large Items?: Just one – an energy-firing rifle with a firing action and recoil similar to a shotgun. Unlike his other weapons it is not directly configured from his body parts, and is a held weapon. It packs a considerable punch but – given how close he is when he shoots Que/Wheeljack – likely doesn’t have the range of some of his other weapons. It’s not shown if it stores on his person or what; Barricade will likely find a way to build a holster for it out of leather and a harness to sling it behind his shoulder to deal with this gap.
