Reference Point of the Canon Update: It's complicated; see below.
How Will This Change the Character?: Okay, so. Pat (Beast's player) and I both took our characters from Astonishing X-Men, which started in 2004. Marvel likes to do a lot of universe-spanning events that tie together multiple titles, and the guy who was writing Astonishing at the time...doesn't. So despite being canon, Astonishing doesn't fit neatly into the continuity.

This means Pat and I had to decide where in the timeline Astonishing happened, and we had a miscommunication. I have been assuming it pre-dated House of M, a very important storyline from 2005, and Pat has been assuming the two major plot arcs in Astonishing straddled the same storyline. This is significant matter both for IC knowledge of events and characterization.

I'm perfectly fine with changing my assumptions to match up with Pat's, but I've been playing Emma as ignorant of House of M, which was a world-changing event that extensively involved versions of characters from other continuities with whom she has CR, to the point where I can't handwave it.

What I would like to do is treat this as something of a canon update. Emma goes into the teleporter and gets spat out suddenly remembering a bunch of stuff she didn't before. Changes to her personality won't be extensive, but here's a list:
  • New IC knowledge.
  • Hates her universe's versions of Pietro and Wanda. She's practical enough not to completely flip her lid at the versions of them from Ultimates, but she is going to be insanely suspicious of Wanda, whom she perceives as an enormous threat.
  • Ambivalent about Magneto. She now knows he's alive in her universe, and sees him as a much more pathetic figure than she did before. He has been depowered at her point in the timeline.
  • More protective of mutants. (Yes, that's possible.) The number of mutants in the world went from millions to about 200 after House of M. Emma now sees life as a war against extinction, whereas before it was more about rights.
  • Bitchier. (Yes, that is also possible.)

tl;dr we need a retcon

Any Large Items?: Just that chip on her shoulder.
