Wooaaoaoaoah you're getting a lot of newbies this round, Sing. Me included.

Anywho I'm Cube! I'll be your host this evening as we introduce Rex here to the wonderful world of Singularity. He's sort of a brat of a teenager and speaks almost entirely in quips so good luck getting a Deep And Serious conversation out of him! But, you know, he's a good kid at heart.

And he can also make big metal structures come out of his body! And he likes to punch monsters with them! So that's pretty cool too!

It's like a deadly Bop-It or something, only you don't know the correct sequence so you just smash it around in randoms spots and hope you hit the wrong sequence because it's actually pretty nice to you when you get it wrong, but Lord save you if you get it right.

Would a whole bunch of them be visible if they were gathered all together? How do people know nanites are around?

In Sonny's canon they're stored in vials.

MAN MORE MILITARY TYPES AND THEIR RIGID SOCIETY. HE'S NOT GONNA BE HAPPY. Except he's probably used to the order that Providence gave, even if he bucked the reins as often as he could. Lost little teenager he will be, until he finds his footing.

SO SPARTANATION WILL BE A GOOD THING FOR HIM PROBABLY.

Well the thing about Rex's nanites is there was a HUGE explosion about 5 years back that pretty much blew them all over the world, so there are always nanites around. They're in everything and everyone! It's only every now and then that the mutations happen and remind everyone of their horrible potential fate. (Anyone infected with nanites could go monster, it's really just a matter of time.)

There is an instance of nanite visibility in one episode, but the person was so severely overloaded with active nanites that he turned into a fucking gigantic hulking monster, instead of just a regular monster.

However! High nanite concentration released into the air looks like gold sparklies (http://i56.tinypic.com/2s84vo4.png). They'll float around a little, too, swirling up into the air like leaves caught in the wind.

Nanites are held in many ways in Rex's canon, but we have seen them use canisters and also very large holding tanks. Depends on whether they're active or inactive, or how many there are.

Oh, fuck, stop me before I TL;DR again.

So how does Rex use them / are they part of him? Does he scream out "nanite attack" or anything before, I dunno, blasting an aerosol can of them in someone's face?

What i'm asking is: how can Sonny tell tiny robots are afoot?

Actually, unlike many other shounen-style-cartoon heroes, Rex does not shout his attacks! He just transforms and goes.

But yes, nanites are wholly a a part of Rex. He doesn't attack with the nanites themselves, but with the machine constructs they allow him to build. So while the nanites are behind the giant metal fist he creates, the damage inflicted would be blunt force trauma as opposed to insidious nanite infection.

If Sonny has any kind of radar, he might pick up unusually mechanical readings from Rex. Rex's nanites are quite active and he can, on occasion, interact with them. Other machines can affect his nanites - in one episode, a computer programs them to not allow Rex to harm them. Then, in reverse, Rex's nanites allow him to affect machines. He can muck around in computers, or change a TV channel, or make soda machines give out free drinks. He doesn't abuse his powers, though.

And lastly, when Rex's powers malfunction, he'll sometimes say aloud something to the effect of "what's wrong with my nanites?" He casually refers to them, being quite comfortable with the idea of them.

With the limitations I've enforced on Rex in Singularity, twenty minutes of continuous use will cause his machines to break off. This could be him flying with his metal-engine wings, or him running with his boots, but any of those things would spur a "what's wrong with my nanites?" question.

And if Sonny happened to be around when he was musing to himself, or if they were already speaking and Rex tried to make machines but found himself unable, then he could definitely drop the word in particular.

It's a little ham-fisted, but it's certainly in-character for Rex!

I don't think Sonny has any special radar, but maybe he does. Probably not a microscopic one though.

But man, if Rex came off as aggressive or a threat [though right now all people shaped things are a threat to Sonny] and then dropped the N-bomb while Sonny was around.

My goodness. Sonny would hit him with a chair or throw a truck at him.

What I'm saying is we should do this.

I need to watch more of this show, man.

Haha I'm actually known as "Jack" around most parts which is short for "Mme. Jack," but since we have a character named Jack here, I though I'd stick and 'M' in the front. So in my head it's pronounces Em-Jack. Haha my other handle is (Dr.)Rex, but I'm glad I stopped going by that one too.

Watch out, Maria. Rex is kind of a flirt (though he's actually pretty bad at it) and she will probably not be exempt.

And you know what makes this all even better?

Despite having high technology nanites running around, Rex's only encounters with AI and humanoid robots in the past was with a villain. So Rex's first instinct on seeing Sonny is probably going to be ATTACK. Punch first, questions later, that sort of thing.

But I could time it just right so that his machines fall apart before he can actually hit Sonny. And then, the N-bomb. :D

I love Rex's punch first mentality.

Do you have a violence tolerance / what is Sonny NOT allowed to do to your character?

Also, did you want to tangle with Sonny while he's brokenish and not so strong? Or when he's at full power?
The broken fight would happen sooner since that's his current state and what my Open Log will be. But in that post I plan to have Sonny end up running away.

Oh, god. I honestly really enjoy beating up my characters, but I don't want to start Rex off with an entire body-breaking. That's just... yeah, not yet. But bruising, scrapes, throwing him around a bit, maybe break something? Collarbones break easily... those are all fine with me! Depends on how you want to take it, too.

I'd be okay with either of those! How strong is he at full power? If we're not going to be mashing Rex into pulp, just banging him around, then brokenish!Sonny would be better. And also, when would the log be going up? I'll be busy on Friday, but before then or after would work well for me.

Haha absolutely likewise. Kind of enjoy laying the smack down too. S'why I brought in a crazy face lion. But I got you. The worst Sonny would do is break an arm or a leg. He still doesn't like the idea of hurting humans.

And haaa, I was thinking of putting the log up Friday night, but I might go with Saturday morning. Friday is kind of my party night, so I'm usually out of commission anyway. Let's go with broken-y Sonny then!

Laying the smackdown is also enjoyable. 8) I just like combat, whether my dude's winning or not.
